The project involved setting up new data instances, ensuring accurate data validation, and transitioning reporting systems while maintaining seamless business operations.
The client aimed to successfully migrate and validate their data across three distinct entities while ensuring smooth operations. Incepta was engaged to:
- Create new instances of Informatica and Snowflake for Entity 1 data only.
- Configure Airflow jobs to fetch relevant data from various applications and update the Snowflake database.
- Ensure BI tools (MicroStrategy & Looker) point to the new Informatica and Snowflake instances, generating accurate reports for Entity 1.
- Facilitate a smooth transition and operational continuity post-separation.
- Implement the project using the Agile Scrum Framework with Jira.
Our client is one of North America’s most established retail business groups, known for its iconic department stores. With three major entities, the client operates across diverse e-commerce platforms:
Entity 1: A leading online eCommerce platform for luxury fashion

- The client needed to separate data for three entities into distinct instances while maintaining data integrity and operational continuity.
- Needed to ensure that data migrated from common instances was accurate and matched the original setup required rigorous validation.
- Transitioning BI reports and dashboards to the new system while ensuring they reflected the correct data was crucial for continued business insights.
Incepta’s team executed a comprehensive upgrade plan, encompassing:
Data Migration: We set up new instances for Entity 1 on Snowflake, migrating data from common instances using Informatica and Apache Airflow. This ETL process ensured accurate data transfer and successful testing on the new Informatica setup.
Data Validation: We employed RPA (UIPath) for data lineage validation, comparing data between the existing and new setups to ensure consistency. Quality assurance involved running queries and capturing results against production data.
Data Engineering: Using DAGs in Airflow, we managed updates for Entity 1 separately from Entities 2 and 3, organizing tasks with dependencies to ensure proper execution. We deployed 183 DAGs to keep data up to date.
Data Reporting: We created new reporting instances on MicroStrategy, Tableau, and Looker, validating that the dashboards and reports generated were consistent with previous data. This provided user-friendly, accessible reports for stakeholders.
Technology Used:
Through this successful collaboration, we delivered a robust, fully upgraded Informatica platform with several key outcomes:
- Successfully migrated 40 ETL jobs to new instances, with fine-tuning and troubleshooting to adhere to best practices.
- Generated 100 new reports using Tableau, enhancing data visualization and accessibility.
- Migrated and validated 7 databases, ensuring data integrity across systems.
- The dashboards and reports created are now actively used by multiple stakeholders, accessible across devices, facilitating faster and more informed decision-making.
